As the Perth International Jazz Festival draws to a close, the Liberty Lair will light up for a final blaze with a saxophone-led spectacular featuring two phenomenal female musicians: Sandy Evans and Holly Moore.
With a career spanning four decades, multi-award-winning Evans has enthralled audiences with both her mastery of the saxophone and her compositions. She has gained national and international acclaim and has had a profound impact on both contemporary jazz and improvised music. Her current trio features Toby Hall on drums and Brett Hirst on bass, who will join her for this final night celebration. Their most recent album, The Running Tide, was released last year.
Holly Moore is a rising star of the Australian musical landscape. The Melbourne-based musician reunites with her friend and musical collaborator, Jessica Carlton (trumpet), and will be joined by Perth musicians Harry Mitchell (piano), Alistair Peel (double bass) and Luke Andresen (drums). Come and witness the creative sparks ignite!

Her current trio features Toby Hall on drums and Brett Hirst, who joined in 2003. The trio has released Not in the Mood (2002) with Brendan Clarke on bass, and The Edge of Pleasure (2009). The trio has performed at festivals and for leading jazz organisations in Australia including: SIMA, Orange Winter Jazz Fest, Perth Jazz Society, Melbourne Jazz Co-op, and Wangaratta. International highlights include JazzFest Berlin, Montreal Jazz Festival and Edinburgh Festival.
Holly Moore
Holly Moore is a Melbourne-based saxophonist, composer and teacher, and a rising star of the Australian jazz scene. In December 2024, she released her album Flood on Japanese/Australian record label Namboku Records. Trumpeter Jessica Carlton is one of Moore’s longtime friends and collaborators, and the two have lived in different cities for most of their adult lives. Whenever they were in Melbourne at the same time, they would put on a gig, which led to Holly’s 2023 ABC Jazz Commission project, Reunion, a suite written about the power of female friendship, and forms the basis of the Holly Moore Quintet.
